Crosshair — The Aiming Point You Control

A crosshair is the on-screen aiming point a player uses to line up shots in PC games. Crosshair EDGE is a custom crosshair overlay app for Windows that lets you design your own crosshair and use it across virtually all PC games.

What is a crosshair?

A crosshair is the on-screen aiming reticle used in shooters, tactical games, and many other PC games to indicate where the player is aiming. Crosshairs come in many forms — a single dot, a plus, a circle, a chevron, or a layered design that combines multiple shapes. Some games draw their own crosshair, some hide it depending on the weapon, and some don't show one at all.

Common types of crosshair

  • Dot crosshair. A single small dot in the center of the screen, minimal and unobtrusive.
  • Plus / cross crosshair. Four short ticks around a center point — the classic FPS reticle.
  • Ring or circle crosshair. A thin outlined circle, useful around an in-game weapon reticle.
  • T-shape crosshair. A plus with the bottom segment removed, popular in tactical shooters.
  • Layered custom crosshair. Multiple shapes stacked together — for example a dot inside a plus inside a ring.

In-game crosshair vs custom crosshair

An in-game crosshair is controlled by the game itself. Its shape can change weapon to weapon, hide while sprinting, or be missing entirely. A custom crosshair overlay is drawn on top of the screen by a separate Windows app, so the same crosshair stays exactly as you designed it across every game and every weapon.

How to get a custom crosshair on PC

  1. Install a custom crosshair app for Windows such as Crosshair EDGE.
  2. Design your crosshair — choose a shape, color, outline, opacity, and size.
  3. Save it as one of 20 presets, then cycle presets with F3 in game.
  4. For best results, run games in borderless fullscreen, windowed fullscreen, or windowed mode.

Crosshair EDGE — a custom crosshair overlay for Windows

Crosshair EDGE is built specifically for this use case: a transparent overlay that draws your custom crosshair on top of any Windows game. Up to 9 layers per preset, full HSV color control, 20 preset slots, Game Auto-Switch per executable, a built-in Bullet Counter, Steam Workshop browsing and uploading, and Steam Cloud sync.

It is overlay-only — it does not inject into games, does not read or write game memory, and does not modify game files. That is why it works as a crosshair overlay for any game on Windows without per-game integration.

Available on Steam

Crosshair EDGE is available on Steam for $5.99 USD. View it on Steam and check the Crosshair EDGE trailer to see the editor and overlay in motion.
